Common problems and how to fix them. If none of this helps, email us — a person reads it.

Signing in

I never received the OTP code

Check the country code and that you have signal, then wait a full 60 seconds before tapping Resend — carrier SMS delivery is often slow rather than broken.

If it still does not arrive: try again on a different network (switch off Wi-Fi, or move), confirm the number can receive SMS from short codes, and check your blocked-messages list. Still stuck? Email us the number you are trying and roughly when you tried.

It says "too many attempts" or asks me to verify twice
Sign-in is rate-limited to block abuse. Wait an hour and try again from the same device. An extra verification step can appear on some Android builds — it is expected, and completing it signs you in normally.
I changed my phone number
Your account is tied to the number you registered with. If you no longer have access to it, email us from any address with both the old and new numbers and we will help — expect to confirm ownership of the old number before we move anything.

Location and alerts

I'm not getting proximity alerts

Alerts need three things to be true:

  • Location permission is set to Always, not "While using the app".
  • Notifications are enabled for PixMap in your device settings.
  • On Android, PixMap is excluded from battery optimisation — aggressive power saving suspends background location on many devices.

Alerts are also deliberately rate-limited, so the same place will not notify you again and again while you are parked next to it.

The distance to a place looks wrong
Distances are straight-line, not driving distance, so they read shorter than the route. GPS accuracy also drops indoors, in dense city blocks and in bad weather. Step outside and pull the list down to refresh.
Nearby shows nothing
Nearby only shows places within your current search radius. Scroll to the bottom of the list and drag the radius slider up — it goes to 50 km. If you have just installed the app, there is genuinely nothing to show until you save your first place.
Location services are disabled / permission denied
Tap Open Settings on the banner and grant location access. If you previously chose "Never", iOS and Android stop asking, and the app cannot re-prompt — it has to be changed in system settings.

Voice and driving

Siri saved the place but used the wrong title
By design, PixMap saves the pin the moment you ask — with a timestamp title like Saved Place · 14:32 — so a place is never lost while it waits for a name. Your spoken name then replaces it. If the name did not take, open the pin and edit the title. Wait for Siri to ask for the name, then speak it clearly and let it finish listening.
"Save this place in PixMap" isn't recognised
Open PixMap once after installing so the system can register its shortcuts. On iOS check Settings → Siri & Search → PixMap. On Android the equivalent lives in the Google app under Assistant settings. The phrase has to include "PixMap" for the assistant to route it to us.
CarPlay or Android Auto isn't showing my places
Both surfaces list places near your current position, so an empty list usually means nothing is saved within range. The list refreshes as you drive. Make sure you are signed in on the phone itself, and that location permission is granted — the car screen cannot ask for permissions on its own.

Places, photos and friends

A photo is stuck uploading
Photos upload in the background and retry on their own when the connection comes back — the place itself is already saved, so nothing is lost. If it has not cleared after reconnecting, reopen the pin and add the photo again.
My friends aren't showing up
Friend matching needs contacts permission, and it only matches people who already use PixMap with the number you have saved for them. Numbers are hashed on your device before matching, so a number stored in a different format may not match — save it with the country code.
How do I stop sharing a place?
Open Shared Pins from your profile and revoke the share. The link stops working immediately. Anyone who already opened it may have kept a copy — revoking prevents future access, it cannot recall what was already seen.
Something in the app is offensive or unsafe
Use the flag action on the pin or the profile, which sends it to our review queue. If someone is using PixMap to track or endanger a person, email us directly and mark it urgent — we treat that as a serious breach of the Terms of service and act on it fast.

Account and data

How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account inside the app, or request it here. Full detail on what is removed and when is on that page.
Can I get a copy of my data?
Yes. Email hello@pixelbrahma.com and we will send a JSON export within 30 days. Request it before deleting your account — deletion cannot be undone.
Which devices does PixMap support?
iOS 15.0 or later, including CarPlay. Android phones, including Android Auto. There is no web or tablet-optimised version yet.

Still stuck?

Tell us your device, OS version and what you expected to happen. That usually gets it fixed in one round instead of three.
